First Annual
Statewide Fitness Awards Ceremony
 
to be held on

Monday, May 19, 2008 at 3:00 pm
in the State Capitol

Worksite Program: The Committee will recognize a worksite for their program,competitive event or initiative designed and implemented to improve the awareness of health and fitness throughout their workplace. The nominated worksite program should increase awareness and accessibility to healthy lifestyle choices, ultimately improving employee health, motivation and everyday life.

Event: A fitness award will be presented to a community or statewide event which promotes involvement and physical activity in citizens of all ages, gender and physical ability. The event should coordinate an activity open to the public which also focuses on increasing general knowledge of health and fitness to all those in attendance.

Community Organization: The Committee will award a community organization (independent of a business, educational institution or public office) for their continual efforts to improve health and wellness in their community. The nominated organization should demonstrate a combination of educational resources, physical activity and nutritional guidelines aimed at increasing community knowledge of health and fitness.

School Site: A Connecticut elementary, intermediate, secondary or post secondary school will be recognized for their extraordinary effort to create and implement successful health and fitness programs and education. Academic course work as well as extra-curricular activities, club programs and interscholastic athletic teams and the involvement and success of such programs will be evaluated to determine a leading educational institution in the state.

Elected Official: The Committee will award an elected official (either local, state or federal) serving within the State of Connecticut who demonstrate exemplary efforts in promoting health and fitness in the state. Involvement in community health activities, working to promote wellness initiatives among citizens of all ages and support of legislation for Connecticut are considered top criteria to be assessed when selecting an elected official.

Individual: An outstanding citizen of Connecticut will be recognized by the Committee for their unique and individual leadership work in the field of health and fitness. The recipient of the individual award must be actively involved in community or statewide events, school programs, publicized initiatives or other wellness efforts as a director, coordinator or official organizer.
